To all of you that have written to Mom and told her to contiune to help me write, I say THANK YOU, and you'll get a licking when I get home.

So, we left Jukkasjärvi and the melted ice hotel, and continued south towards Moms and Lottas puppytown , still too far to make in one day, so we stopped for one night in Gällivare. There it was raining cats and dogs ???? grass was soaked and hughe puddles everywhere...........no fun for sightseeing, so we stayed in Lucy and continued in the morning........

Here we are at the artic circle.....................almost home Mom says

I did hear some talk about going back to Norway, and that means more ferries...........please please I pleaded .........they are so scary...........I think I won this battle....

  o

We stopped at a very nice place by a river for "fika" and they had caught some char, that they grilled over open fire. Mom and Lotta salivated over it. I tasted it, but wasn't all that impressed.

Weather is getting nice, but still pretty cold at night ..........easy to deal with just bundle up ............what's hard for Mom is the mosquitoes that's so plentiful they are sucking all the blood out of her so she's at risk of fainting.............well, that's the drama queen speaking..........I have no problem with them.......

We finally arrive at Mom's cousins house, and Lotta took the bus back south to Stockholm, which means I got my seat back.................yiiiipppiieeee..............s
till miss her tough...........sometimes she was nice enough to let me sit in her lap, and that was very cozy

when we got closer to Cousin's house I recognized myself and was so happy I could hardly contain myself. I love her yard and the freedom to roam. The views are awesome, the cows bark all night, and there’s 2 meatball factories not far. ( not allowed there tough)

Lucy was completely covered in crushed bugs, so Mom spent several days cleaning and waxing Lucy, and she finally got her nametag and flags. ( where are the American flags ? )  She’s named after St.Lucia, since she was purchased on Dec.13 which is Lucia day in Sweden. Her last name, Knaus is her birth name.

I have one more favorite place here in Moms puppy town, and that is here............It's Vanja and Lizzes house..........and where our trip started this time. Picture is from a month ago and is the reason for no flowers.

This time the weather is quite pleasant so we got invited to eat “ surströmming” in their gazebo............( you have to be inside a mosquito net, or else )
Let me tell you about this dish ...........my sensitive nose got an overload on aroma. They’re eating canned sour fish ??? and Mom have a problem when I eat little tootsie rolls from Lilly ??

It is a fermented Baltic Sea herring that has been a staple of traditional Northern Swedish cuisine since at least the 16th century.

Just enough salt is used to prevent the raw fish from rotting (chemical decomposition). A fermentation process (which converts sugar to acids, gases, and alcohol) of at least six months gives the lightly-salted fish its characteristic strong smell and somewhat acidic taste.

When opened, the contents release a strong and sometimes overwhelming odour; the dish is ordinarily eaten outdoors. According to a Japanese study, a newly opened can has one of the most putrid food smells in the world.

The Baltic herring, is smaller than the Atlantic herring, found in the North Sea, and fished in the brackish waters of the Baltic sea.The herring used for “surströmming” are caught just prior to spawning

They eat in on potatoes and bread, garnish with lots of onion and tomatoes..................

This is a Curlew bird that we always welcomed in spring, they are endangered  and we don't see them as often as we did as kids...........this is a lucky shot.

Well, I think I'm caught up on my travel log, this is where wee have been staying for the last 2 days, not far from Moms puppytown. I think we'll leave today, but I'm not sure...........I'll keep you updated for sure..................wet kisses from Buttons..............Mom says hello

Oh, and here's a midsummer picture of us

and here's a classmate to Mom that I have rapped around my paw.................

yesterday Mom and I went to a dog show...........she was especially interested in the Shih Tzu’s there.Needless to say, she couldn’t find anyone more handsome than me................of course, did she really expect that ?????

I met a girl that was cute, but way too pushy for my taste..........she tried to tongue me right away ? I told her off, I’m not that kind of a guy I said

There was a lot of different breeds there, and Moms favorite ( beside me ) was the Afgan.... I too had to admit he looked awsome as his hair flowed when he ran  around the ring............he looked like he bounced on every step..............

this little guy reminded me of how my buddy Pepper could look if it wasn't for his Mom shaving him

There was bright white dogs

some spotted ones

some too tired to be bothered

some gentle giants...........

Finally a really mean dude that growled at me for no reason at all ? ...........his Mom called me a " battery operated toy"..............I ignored her and her stupid dog, which Mom gave me a lot of praise for...........and a goodie of course...........
Now back to Juukasjärvi where I left off.

The town is small with only 548 inhabitants, and is a very popular tourist accommodation during winter month and is best known for it’s ice hotel, which is booked years in advance.

The wooden church is the oldest building in the village, built 1607, and is well known for it’s wooden carved altar piece, that is very colorful, and the left wing are showing repentance

This picture is only the klock tower that you walk through to get in to the church.

This part of the altar shows one repenting sinner who is breaking a barrel of vodka, while another is giving back a stolen reindeer." "Hjorth was one of Sweden’s best-known sculptors and painters, and was professor of art at the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1949 to 1959."

The middle part need no explanation I'm sure..........

Finally the right wing of the altar, which shows a funeral, marriage, and a happy woman............Mom don't remember why

The organ, made from reindeer horn and birch, is decorated with images from Sami mythology. And, more curiously, the mummified bodies of locals who died during the 18th Century are still hidden somewhere beneath the church floor.

Here Mom and Lotta ate reindeer meat cooked the traditional way on open fire in a teepee. They also served coffee made the traditional way, which Mom didn’t touch knowing drinking it, would be equal to getting an enema....

We are now parked in a fish camp North of Moms town, it's very sunny and no mosquitos here yet, so we're heading out for a walk............I'll continue my story later..............still have some catching up to do
....................later alligator..........

HAPPY 4 TH. EVERYBODY ..............I’m glad I’m here in Sweden now, so I don’t have to be scared by all the fireworks you guys use to celebrate..............I’ve been really really mad at my Mom lately, because she has refused to help me write in my blog. She said nobody is reading anyway ??? I told her she’s wrong, but no begging or nagging has helped until now when she noticed some friends had replied to me...............
For the last week we have stayed in Mom's puppy town and done the usual visits.

I'm going to try to pick up my story at the place we left off, which was in Kiruna in Swedish Lapland.

Covering 19,447 square kilometers, Kiruna is the biggest municipality in Sweden. If all the municipalities were as big as Kiruna, there would only be room for 21 municipalities in Sweden, instead of the 290 that Sweden actually has. Its size naturally means there are long distances so we're driving forever and all I see is forests.
Variations in the landscape within the municipality also mean that there can be big local variations in climate and weather. In the central community of Kiruna which lies about 200 kilometers  (125 miles ) north of the Arctic circle and just over 500 meters above sea level, it is seldom colder than -20° (-4F )Celsius in the winter, at the same time as Jukkasjärvi in the Torne River Valley 20 kilometers further east often experiences -30° ( -22 F).Normally the snow cover lasts from the latter part of October until the end of May. In Riksgränsen however, the skiing season continues until midsummer – in the third week of June. Incidentally, Riksgränsen is the place in Sweden with most precipitation - snow and rain. But just 30 kilometers away we have Abisko with Sweden's least precipitation

Kiruna is home to the world’s largest underground iron ore mine.
Processing takes place above ground and includes concentration and pellets production. They're planning to move the the entire town 3 km. so they can continue mining.

Kiruna wooden church is in the shape of a Sami  tent cot.
The church was completed in 1912 and donated by the  Mining company. Seems like Mom and Lotta has done a lot of church exploring lately ??

Of course I'm not allowed to come along ? and I don't understand why ? Does not God like dogs ? I'm real curious what the big deal about these places is ?
Maybe next time.........................Mom says it's only special churches that are interesting, the architecture, history and so on .....................phew I'm relieved, I thought she was becoming holy
...................The steeple, which was in my view from Lucy was very pretty......

Spaceport,  is a company located in Kiruna, in Swedish Lapland, that plans to make Kiruna the primary European Spaceport for  personal suborbital spaceflight for space tourism, research, education and a hub for cross-industry innovation.
Next time we visit maybe we can take a rocket to the moon...............

we're soon continuing south, and stopped at yet another church in the small town of Jukkasjärvi, which is the home of the first ice hotel. There was no remains of it, since it had melted, but they had tours of their warehouse where they stored big blocks of ice ..............Mom and Lotta has seen plenty of ice in their lives so they didn't bother to pay for the tour, but they tried on their very heavy capes.

let a sleeping bear sleep

weather is changing quickly now, and the internet is acting up ..................I'll continue later.......................promise...............
